Acting Director of Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) Brig. Obeid Mohair bin Suroor has affirmed that holders of international health insurance cards are not required to obtain local insurance policies for entry and residency in the emirate.

Addressing representatives of free zones at a meeting held at the Officers’ Club in Dubai, Bin Suroor clarified that the new executive rules of the residency law exempt holders of international health insurance cards from obtaining local insurance coverage.

He added that the companies operating under the umbrella of free zones have to work out a mechanism for the health insurance cover of their prospective employees and furnish the names of the beneficiaries in individual or group applications.

Government institutions hosting expatriates have to make written undertakings to incur the expenses of their treatment in cases of accidents during their stay in the country, Bin Suroor added.
