The Ministry of Economy has launched comprehensive prices’ control nationwide to prevent manipulation, monopoly and ensure item supplies during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The ministry coordinated with the consumptive cooperative societies and main outlets to prepare Ramadan food basket for consumers during Ramadan at cost prices with effect from next week. The ministry and cooperative societies’ logo will be attached to the food basket.
Engineer Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehi, undersecretary of the ministry for planning section, said the ministry is keen to stabilise market by curbing soaring prices, particularly during the month of Ramadan in which some traders manipulate prices and monopolise commodities.
“The ministry will be tough with offenders through its offices which will conduct inspections across the country during Ramadan”, he added.
