Motorists crossing Al Barsha and Al Safa toll gates in a span of one hour will be paying Salik just once.
Salah Al Marzouqi, Director of Intelligent Traffic Systems Department at the Roads and Transport Authority, clarified on Sunday that only Dh4 would be deducted from the Salik account of the motorist if he/she passes Al Barsha and Al Safa toll gates in an hour.

The statement has come as a relief to motorists The Al Safa and Al Maktoum toll gates would be activated on September 9, marking the beginning of the second phase of Salik. “The RTA has been very clear on the concept of one trip since the launch of Phase 2 of toll gates. For more clarification, the time of a single trip has been fixed at one hour,” he said. The Salik system is fitted with traffic technological control systems to take into account traffic bottlenecks and accidents, Al Marzouqi said. The average time taken for crossing Al Safa and Al Barsha toll gates is 15 to 20 minutes, he noted.

Motorists who want to avoid Salik have alternative routes such as the 13-lane Business Bay Crossing, the Floating Bridge linking the terminal point of Al Ittihad Road near City Centre with Al Riyadh Road in Bur Dubai and the Shindagha Tunnel route.

The Emirates Road  has been widened from three to six lanes in each direction up to the Arabian Ranches Interchange. And there is Dubai Bypass Road, consisting of six lanes in each direction linking Dubai with Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, without having to go through the down town areas.
