The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MSFNCA), in co-operation with Sharjah University, resumed on Monday its training workshop in political communication for media personnel.
The workshop titled, “Press interaction on political events: Vision and Challenges” focused on giving the media personnel a better perspective on how to deal with the political issues and related events that take place in the country, region or internationally. The workshop also introduced participants to case studies of international press coverage related to political events.
The workshop series, which started in November and will continue in the months ahead, gained positive feedback from participating media personnel who highlighted the need for such initiatives aimed at strengthening the partnership between the Ministry and the media, thus enhancing awareness on political practices amongst the public.
“The media plays a very significant role in developing our parliamentary experience, which has enriched the political process of the country. This positive trend needs transparency and credibility of the media personnel who communicate the details of the FNC activities to the public,” said His Excellency Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of the Federal National Council Affairs.
His Excellency Tariq Lootah, Director General of the MSFNCA, stressed on the importance of such initiatives, and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to raise political awareness amongst the public, given the development of the political practice in the UAE.
He praised the media’s role in energizing the parliamentary process in the country in partnership with the MSFNCA. Mr Lootah also praised the media’s contribution to the UAE’s political growth, reflecting its strong partnership with the ministry.
Lootah said: “We strongly believe in the media’s role in strengthening the political process and spreading awareness about it in the UAE. We have been encouraged by the interest that the workshops generate and we hope that this will foster a stronger relationship with the press.”
The MSFNCA intends to hold several related workshops about media communications and IT use in media in the coming months. The workshops will also include case studies and technology sessions explaining ways to enhance research skills on the Internet. They will also debate ways of improving the partnership between the MSFNCA and the media personnel, as well as the coverage generated by the local media on the FNC elections.
