- Gargash: Ministers show strong resolve to support welfare of the UAE
- Media freedom important to drive development while upholding nation’s rich culture and traditions
His Excellency Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MSFNCA), said the sessions of the Federal National Council (FNC) highlight the strong interaction and resolve of the UAE Government and the Ministers in supporting socio-economic welfare policies. He lauded the commitment of the Ministers for their involvement in implementing innovative policies that further strengthen the country.
Dr Gargash said the Ministers showed enormous insight into the various issues raised by the FNC members as well as key societal concerns. He said that Lt General His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was particularly responsive to the queries of FNC members regarding the draft law on medals and symbols.
He said that the draft Media Law, which reflects the policy of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, towards developing a healthy media in the country by providing more operational freedom for journalists, gained strong interest at the FNC session. He said the law reiterates the commitment of the FNC to ensure that the media functions according international standards and contribute to the welfare of the society.
Dr Gargash said the Ministers and FNC members evaluated the draft Media Law in line with the constitutional principles, and is aimed at establishing real harmony amongst the authorities and the media. “Media freedom is important in strengthening the UAE’s developmental drive while upholding the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the nation,†he said, adding that “the FNC members took extreme care and extensive preparation in discussing the articles of the Media Law to ensure that it further enhances the efficiency of the media.â€

The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MSFNCA) was founded under Federal Decree No. (10) for the year 2006. A milestone for the UAE, MSFNCA reflects the vision of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in shaping a new political culture for the country and further strengthening the political framework.
The ministry will be responsible for promoting participatory political practices among citizens of the UAE and propose actions to enhance the role of the FNC and co-ordinate its work with the Federal Government. MSFNCA participates in establishing legislations related to the role of the FNC and supervises media activities in relation to the FNC.
