The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE), today, announced the start of the fourth Gulf Consumer Protection Day, at a press conference held in Abu Dhabi.
His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy said that strong consumer protection practices are essential for market equilibrium. He stressed the importance of the initiative in creating awareness on consumer rights across the UAE.
Mr Al Mansouri said that the MoE is committed to the success of the fourth Gulf Consumer Protection Day, and will coordinate with all concerned organisations in the UAE to ensure strong participation.
Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of Consumer Protection Department at MoE, addressed the press conference on behalf of His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Bin Abdul Azizi Al Shihhi, Director General of MOE, attended by representatives of the public and private sectors. He explained the various activities that have been outlined as part of the initiative and congratulated the efforts of all local and federal institutions for their support. He also highlighted the efforts exerted by the consumer protection department at the Ministry and its achievements across the UAE.
‘The Gulf Consumer Protection Day comes in line with the commitment of the GCC region, and the UAE in particular, in protecting consumer rights and highlighting the crucial role of the consumer in overall growth,†Mr Al Nuaimi said.
‘The UAE takes concerted efforts to protect consumers to ensure their satisfaction. The Federal Law number (24) of year 2006 regarding consumer protection issued by the UAE is an example of the nation’s commitment to consumers,†said Mr Al Nuaimi,
He explained that the Ministry of Economy takes necessary procedures allowing it to supervise consumer protection policies, monitor prices, ensure healthy competition, and coordinate with other concerned bodies to strengthen awareness among consumers regarding prices and services. “The ministry also educates consumers on their rights, and receives complaints and investigates them for their overall welfare,†he added
Major retails outlets are participating in the fourth Gulf Consumer Protection Day. Special leaflets, highlighting the Ministry’s support, will be distributed at these retails outlets. The campaign will run till March 30 and also includes lectures at Universities and schools in the UAE about consumer rights and relevant issues. Some retail outlets will sell basic commodities at the cost price by coordinating with the Ministry of Economy.
