Typical speed enforcement situations: One direction of travel is documented whilst speeding drivers traveling in the opposite direction evade enforcement; offending motorcyclists are captured from the front and the license plate remains unidentified. Together with the new remote camera PoliScanspeed, a laser-based speed enforcement device from VITRONIC, violations are documented from the front and the rear. The number of valid cases increases and speed in both directions is reduced.
PoliScanspeed and the new remote camera detect and document speed violations in numerous traffic situations. In many countries driver photos are required; in other situations they are unnecessary or not permitted. In both cases the traffic can only be fully enforced in a single direction. With the new enforcement solution from VITRONIC both oncoming and receding vehicles can be captured. This includes motorcycles which, until recently, have managed to escape detection. The remote camera can even be positioned to take profile images of car and truck drivers where previously the A-Column or a navigation system prevented clear identification.
The remote camera is connected to the PoliScanspeed system via WLAN and simultaneously captures infringement images. The system consists of a high-resolution camera, flash and function box. It can be tripod-mounted or placed on the ground. In the case of a speed violation the PoliScanspeed system takes a photo and sends a signal to the remote camera which captures a second image. All data are then transferred to the operator where the case is compiled and encrypted. The cases, even from challenging traffic situations, are valid before a court of law.
The PoliScanspeed system detects, captures and documents speed violations fully-automatically using digital camera technology. At the core of the system is next-generation LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, which uses time-of-flight measurements to calculate vehicle speeds. The system is certified for unattended use and eliminates the need for costly in-road equipment. It can measure in challenging traffic situations such as in curves, on bends and through road works. The PoliScanspeed system has been tested extensively in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and has impressed police forces in both regions.
