Summer camp now open at Kensington Nursery
Taking the heat out of the summer for children just got easier with the Kensington Nursery summer camp, a perfect venue for children to engage in creative, fun edutainment activities.
The Umm Suqeim-based Kensington Nursery is holding a Summer Camp until the end of August. The camp, open to babies and children from 4 months to 7 years old, offers a variety of activities organised according to age.
Every day the summer camp is being themed to accommodate different activities such as music, arts and crafts, discovery, and language skills. All activities are carefully designed to stimulate a child’s imagination and help them develop key skills in these areas.
For instance, on the music days children not only learn new songs or play musical games, but are also given the chance to make their own musical instruments, whilst on the arts & crafts day, they can immerse themselves in numerous activities such as model making and papier maché, or engage in numerous painting methods such as blowing, string and bubble painting, sponge or finger painting.
“Under the Reggio Emilia approach, children are encouraged to demonstrate resourcefulness, curiosity, creativeness, inventiveness and competence,†explains Frances Wood, Director of Education for The Kensington Nursery. “Our activities during the summer camp allow the children an opportunity to discover the world for themselves, which helps them build key social skills such as sharing and a desire to interact and communicate with others.
“We have a wide variety of themed days planned for the summer camp which include a Teddy Bears’ picnic day, animals, fairy tales, shapes and colours. Other activities planned for the discovery days will be the investigation of a sensory garden, performing simple experiments and cooking simple dishes. During the language days children will learn new words by using an Interactive Board, learn writing skills using sand and crayons, and exchange stories through story telling,†she added.
Parents can enrol their children throughout the summer months either daily or weekly on either a half day (7.30 am – 2.00 pm) or full day (7.30 am – 5:30 pm) basis. The fees include the provision of meals for the children. Further details can be found at www.thekensingtonnursery.com or by calling 04 394 4473.
About The Kensington Nursery
The Kensington Nursery is a brand new institution located in Umm Suqeim, which offers a foundation in education using the Reggio Emilia approach.
Recognised as one of the best pre-school learning systems in the world, the Reggio Emilia approach, combined with the British Early Years Foundation Programme, is designed to give children the greatest possible start to their education.
Its core curriculum is taught in English, while Arabic and French are both introduced through engaging and fun-filled activities. The curriculum allows children to learn through interaction with other students, teachers, parents and their peers in a friendly learning environment.
The school offers activities for infants from the age of four months to two years old, in a secure yet stimulating environment. The Pre-Foundation Stage Profile allows toddlers of two to three years to use creativity, exploration, imagination and creativity to discover and develop. The structured and varied programme of play activities is designed to help children broaden their communication, social, cognitive and self-help skills.
The Nursery is also offering pre-school learning for children of three to five years, using the British Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which is based on six primary focus areas – social and emotional development; communication; language; literacy; problem solving, reasoning and numeracy; and creative and physical development.
