(12)12-07-2009ISLAMICEnthusiastic Museum Guides at the Islamic Museum of Civilization have devised a pioneering workshop for 15 children and young adults which were launched this July. ”Al Murshid Al-Mutemeyyez” (Be a Brilliant Museum Guide) is a three-day programme aimed at youngsters between the age of 7 and 17. Its purpose is to introduce Emirati children to the Museum and teach them the basic principles of professional museum guiding in a fun way.

During the event, 15 children from Sharjah Youth Centres discovered the exciting world of a Museum Guide through specially devised activities in the Faith, Science and Art Galleries of the Museum, including quizzes, fun challenges and formal instruction. (14)12-07-2009ISLAMIC“This innovative idea is due entirely to the dedication and initiative of our guiding staff who aim to pass on their skills to the next generation and who will run all aspects of the workshop” says Dr Ulrike Al-Khamis, Advisor at the Museum.

At the end of the programme, the Islamic Museum of Civilization honored all the ‘Brilliant Museum Guide’ participants. This very first of its kind workshop in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, and thereby supports the desire of the Museum itself and Sharjah Museums Department as a whole to serve as a beacon for the professional development of museum staff locally, nationally and throughout the Arab world.
