UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom Abdul Rehman Al-Mutawwa opened the new EmiratesNBD Bank.
Emirates Bank and the National Bank of Dubai were merged in 2007 to create Emirates NBD.
Present at the opening ceremony were Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al-Mualla, former minister of planning, Ahmed Al-Madfa’, chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jamal Bin Ghalaita, Deputy CEO of EmiratesNBD, UAE businessmen and members of the bank’s staff.
Emirates NBD, the biggest banking group in the Middle East in terms of assets was formed on 16th of October 2007 when the shares of Emirates NBD were officially listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM). The merger brought together the UAE’s second and fourth largest banks (Emirates Bank and National Bank of Dubai) by assets and has created a banking champion with the largest asset base in the Middle East.
