On the occasion World Food Day, Al Ghurair Foods recently organized a three day campaign to promote healthy eating practices from the 15th to the 17th of October 2009.

IMG_1531An array of fun filled activities welcomed the visitors of Al Ghurair Mall. This included a drawing competition for children, a quiz competition on healthy food and nutrition, spot competitions where the  winners took home Jenan Goody Bags. The importance of choosing the right food ingredients in our daily cooking were also highlighted on this occasion.

According to Sameera Fernandes, PR & Communication Manager, Al Ghurair Foods, “We believe that the public should be conscious on how to achieve good health. Thus, we constantly want to extend our knowledge in helping them realize healthy lifestyle through our activities. This is an opportune time to address the health hazards being experienced by the nation and promote healthy lifestyle consciousness amongst the visitors”.

IMG_1263Most people generally tend to eat whatever comes their way. They are not mindful of what constitutes correct eating and even less what are the correct ingredients. To increase the awareness of the public, a series of such drives will be conducted to educate and inform the public on what constitutes right eating habits and most importantly really constitutes the correct food ingredient. Eating right is an important aspect of the entire health regime and as such needs to be paid equal attention as physical fitness, adds Sameera Fernandes, PR & Communication Manager of Jenan, the flagship brand from Al Ghurair Foods offering a variety of healthy products such as Jenan canola oil and Jenan diabetics’ flour.

IMG_1321Diabetes is becoming the disease of the century in the UAE and is more common among adolescents, due to unhealthy nutritional habits and lack of exercise. Sedentary lifestyle and incorrect nutrition lead to overweight or obesity, which are among the main risk factors. Latest studies carried out by the World Health Organisation, revealed that 26 per cent of UAE nationals suffer from diabetes. The study also states that 40 per cent of those aged 60 and above suffer from the disease. Hence, on the occasion of World Food Day, the importance and benefits of Jenan Canola Oil and Jenan Diabetics’ Flour were also highlighted.
