Girl Guides Centenary Launch with Geordie Bird ~100 years on…
Guiding has come a long way since a small group of girls stepped forward at the 1909 Boy Scout rally at Crystal Palace Park and asked Robert Baden – Powell to develop a similar movement especially for them.
Dubai’s very own celebrity DJ Geordie Bird joined in the fun as the guest of honor at the recent Centenary launch party of the Girl Guides in the UAE held at the Westin on Sunday afternoon. As a former Girl Guide herself Geordie Bird was more than happy to be part of the fun packed day that saw the girls involved in games, raffles and even a clown to keep them entertained.
100 years to the day, 1.2 million Girlguiding members and guests will be attending parties across the world to mark this illustrious occasion and, in doing so, launch a year of Centenary Celebrations which will run from the 5th September 2009 to the 20th October 2010. Members from all sections of Girl Guides, from Rainbows through to the Trefoil Guild are invited to locally organised Launch parties and, providing it is practical to do so, will be asked to bring a guest – someone who has previously made her guiding Promise but who is not currently a member of the Girl Guides to come and take a fresh look.
