Building on ‘Because We Care,’ the initiative of Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), Sharjah Art Museum (SAM) organised an awareness lecture on breast cancer to raise awareness and educate the public about social concerns and take adequate measures. The initiative is part of SAM’s social responsibility and annual calendar of activities.
Eman Mahmoud, health education specialist, led the lecture, which focused on the early detection of beast cancer, how to self examine, and ways to manage the disease condition.
Alongside the lecture, Sharjah Art Museum organised a blood donation campaign in co-operation with the Department of Blood Transfusion and Research Services at the UAE Ministry of Health. The campaign is part of SMD’s continuous efforts to highlight the principles of brotherhood among individuals and support patients in need.
“We are striving to strengthen community engagement through various initiatives as part of our social responsibility. We are leveraging the public appeal for museums to use them as vehicles for promoting social change and awareness, and the breast cancer seminar and blood donation camp are testament to our commitment,†said Manal Ataya, Director General, SMD.
“Museums in Sharjah play a vital role in spreading health awareness issues among individuals to enhance the standard of living in the emirate and in the importance of communicating it timely,†said Zekryat Matouk, curator of Sharjah Art Museum.
The UAE Ministry of Heath arranged a mobile van equipped with the necessary medical supplies, a lab and beds to facilitate the blood donation campaign. The campaign, which was supervised by a team of specialised doctors, generated tremendous response from the employees at SMD.
