General Electric Company (GE) employees in Bahrain have stepped out to support the community through their participation in a blood donation campaign. The participation by GE Volunteers in the Kingdom highlight the commitment of the company to play an active role in socially relevant initiatives that further build strong community linkages.
Over 25 employees of GE in Bahrain took part in the blood donation campaign at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, the biggest medical facility in Bahrain serving 90 per cent of the nation’s population.
Some 16 participants and 16 supporters from GE also signed up for the Bahrain Marathon Relay marking the company’s fourth consecutive year of participation. The participants took part in regular training session to enhance fitness and stamina for the event, organised by Bahrain Round Table to raise funds for various local charities. GE employees ran a total of 47 km, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
Ahmed Qasem, Leader of GE Volunteers in Bahrain, said: “GE accords strong priority to volunteer training as it is a mark of our employees’ commitment to the society. The blood donation campaign is further testaments to how we, as a corporate, work in tandem with the needs and aspirations of the society at large.â€
The blood donation campaign indeed made lasting impressions in the participants, who have expressed their willingness to take part in similar initiatives in the future too. In addition to the blood donors, a team at GE was involved in managing the event, ensuring that all logistical aspects are taken care of.
“The blood donation camp was particularly crucial as a recent study shows that 25 per cent of the people might need donated blood once or twice in their lifetime. Salmaniya Medical Complex serves as a hub for blood requirements of various hospitals, and our campaign will help meet the needs of patients in critical condition,†added Qasem.
