The Rt Hon Lord Mandelson tours At the Top, Burj Khalifa

The Right Honourable Lord Peter Mandelson, UK’s First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Lord President of the Council, toured At the Top, Burj Khalifa the world’s highest observatory deck with an outdoor terrace on Level 124 of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

The Rt Hon Lord Mandelson was accompanied on the tour by Mr Abdulla Lahej, Executive Director, Dubai Project Management, Emaar Properties, the developer of Burj Khalifa.

The Rt Hon Lord Mandelson spent nearly 45 minutes At the Top, taking in the impressive views of Dubai from the towering heights. He was also briefed on the making of the tower, and enjoyed the At the Top journey that offered insights on Dubai’s heritage and Burj Khalifa’s towering position among global high-rises.

Mr Lahej said: “The Rt Hon. Lord Mandelson has been at the forefront of promoting global trade ties through multilateral partnerships in addition to being one of the ardent champions in fighting poverty and addressing the various challenges of the developing world.”

He added: “Burj Khalifa is a towering spectacle on what humanity can achieve through global collaboration, and we are privileged to host such a distinguished global leader on the tour of At the Top. His visit to Dubai and Burj Khalifa also has great symbolic value too highlighting the need for powerful partnerships and collaborative ventures in promoting global growth.”

The Rt Hon Lord Mandelson was earlier European Union Commissioner for Trade and Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform. He served as Member of Parliament for the constituency of Hartlepool.

He was appointed to the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Trade and Industry in 1998, where he was responsible for the introduction of the National Minimum Wage. He is honorary Chair of Policy Network, a European and international think tank.

The entrance to the At the Top experience is at The Dubai Mall’s Lower Ground level. The reception area of the attraction features a large illuminated model of Burj Khalifa that introduces and familiarizes visitors with the various sections within the super-tall building. Multimedia displays ‘Dubai Then and Now’, ‘From Earth to the Sky’ and ‘From Vision to Reality’ narrate the evolution of Dubai and Burj Khalifa.
