CDA visits Dubai Club for Special Sports to discuss issues of mutual interest

A delegation from the Community Development Authority in Dubai (CDA) headed by His Excellency Mr Khaled Al Kamda, Director General, CDA, has visited the Dubai Club for Special Sports to gain an insight into the club’s aims and activities and discuss the challenges it faces.

As part of the authority’s commitment to strengthen the standards of social services and integrate those most vulnerable in society, it is planning large scale communication with organisations concerned about the welfare of people with disabilities.

Mr. Thani Jumma Bal-Rogad, Chairman, Dubai Club for Special Sports, received the delegation and commended CDA’s efforts to achieve integration, interdependence and community sustainability.

“CDA always strives for communication and co-ordination with humanitarian, social and charitable organizations, especially with those who provide services to people with disabilities and aim to attract national cadres. What interests us is the development of the concept of work within the club and the way it moves forward to achieve the goals in spite of the hardships and challenges. We are pleased to cooperate with Dubai Club for Special Sports as we have the same target and message,” said Al Kamda.

HE Mr Al Kamda stressed the need to discuss the challenges faced by the club with specialized committees, and appealed to continue co-operation with the members of the club to better integrate in society. He also emphasized the need for statistics of people with disabilities in the UAE and the allocation of a hotline to serve them.

The meeting included topics related to people with disabilities and the non-availability of facilities, along with advice to them in a lot of the UAE’s facilities. They also discussed the need for a higher council for disabled people in terms of health, social and cultural rights, and help with their social integration.

Mr Majid Al Aseemi, Executive Director of the club, presented an overview of the services and activities and the current challenges the club faces. Ibtisam Al Suweidi, director of the women’s section at the club, spoke about the role of women with disabilities in the community, and their ability to produce and contribute to community development.

CDA’s delegation included Sheikh Maktoum Bin Butti Al Maktoum, CEO – Social Care; Dr Hussein Ali Reda, Social Expert, Dr Eman Gaad, Director of Disability Services and Amna Al Obaidli, Director of Social Care.
