Dubai Duty Free (DDF) announced that its first quarter sales soared by 21 percent, with $300 million worth of sales, Khaleej Times reported. The DDF, which operates retail outlets at the three terminals of Dubai International Airport, said that the gain signals a return of consumer confidence. It said that the sales boost was driven by a rise in airport traffic in the first quarter. Dubai airport, which is the world’s fastest growing in terms of international passengers among the top 30 airports, said that its passenger traffic grew 22.6 percent in February, with the airport handling a total of 3,640,323 passengers during the month. According to the DDF statement, recruitment at the duty free continued apace in the first quarter of 2010 with 229 new sales assistants appointed.
