The Emirates Arthritis Foundation today called for action at the inauguration of Women’s World Live exhibition for the growing quality of life issues which are affecting Rheumatoid Arthritis patients in the country. Women’s World Live is being held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre 7-10 April 2010.

”The UAE is currently experiencing a crisis whereby 20% of women are affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis yet patients are typically experiencing a year’s delay in diagnosis and a further nine months before starting treatment. It’s crucial for anyone experiencing symptoms to get diagnosed as soon as possible to prevent the disease from taking hold, commented Katrina Thornely, Patient Support Director from the Emirates Arthritis Foundation.

The average age of a person who suffers from Arthritis is 43 years and the disease is three times more common in women than men. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that primarily causes chronic inflammation of the joints but can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as in other organs in the body. Since Rheumatoid Arthritis is a progressive illness it is critical to seek early diagnosis in order to manage the disease. The Emirates Arthritis Foundation will be alerting visitors at Women’s World Live to the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. These include pain in more than one joint, swelling of joints and joint stiffness.

Women’s World Live will offer women a one-stop shop for beauty, fashion and health products, services and experiences. The event is set to offer visitors the very latest in beauty treatments, diet plans, styles, and exercises. Health services on offer will include free health check-ups, personal advice from leading health and wellbeing professionals, including Emirates Arthritis Foundation, and exercise and fitness classes.

Tickets are available at AED 10 and can be purchased on the door or are free for visitors wearing their gym kit.
