The third Gulf Film Festival, the annual event celebrating Gulf cinema held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), honoured French filmmaker Francois Vogel for his innovative style of filmmaking.
Festival Director Masoud Amralla Al Ali presented the award to Vogel, whose films were screened at Gulf Film Festival in its ‘In Focus’ segment.
Renowned for his impressive visuals, Vogel blends the best of traditional filmmaking with New Age digital media. He experiments with cubist squares, three dimensional approaches and free-moving elements creating a unique movie experience.
Masoud Amralla Al Ali said: “The screening of Vogel’s films at GFF generated good response from the audience. Vogel also shared his insights on filmmaking, which was of immense value to emerging and aspiring talent. His approach to film-making with a focus on leveraging the digital technology holds great appeal to youngsters making film-making more accessible and feasible.â€
Vogel began his career in visual arts with video artist Dominik Barbier’s gallery installations and gained international acclaim with his ‘You’ campaign for HP. He conceputalised the ‘Picture Book’ campaign that won AdWeek’s Campaign of the Year.
