The British Business Group (BBG) for Dubai and Northern Emirates has beaten rival entries from every corner of the globe, including Paris, Shanghai and Miami, to be voted the world’s best British business club in the 2010 Best of British awards organised by the Telegraph Group in the United Kingdom.

The Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, HE Eng. Hamad M. Buamim, commented: “We would like to congratulate the BBG on this important milestone. Since its inception, the BBG has worked hard to provide its members with world-class services and create synergy with the local business community. It is heartening to see that their efforts have paid off”.

Chairman and CEO of the BBG, Mark Beer, said, “This prestigious award is about Dubai and its evolution into a dynamic and exciting place to do business.  For more than twenty years the BBG has been an instrumental part of this growth.  This award therefore recognises the considerable efforts of the BBG to create opportunity, to help foster new business and to forge strong working partnerships with our Emirati colleagues.”

His Excellency Buamim explained: “Dubai Chamber is committed to creating a favourable business environment, supporting the development of business and promoting Dubai as an international business hub. Our longstanding partnership with business groups, such as the BBG, provides us with the impetus we need to achieve those objectives.  Business groups continue to play a vital role in Dubai’s economy by developing important links and building relationships across business, government and other trade organisations.”

The British Consul General in Dubai, Guy Warrington said, “As the representative voice of British business, the BBG plays a vital role alongside the Embassy and the UK Trade & Investment office in promoting bilateral relations. I am delighted that this has now been recognised on a global scale and congratulate the BBG on this prestigious award”

The BBG is one of the largest and oldest business groups in the Gulf region with a growing list of more than 1500 member companies and an increasingly busy calendar of activity.  It is scheduled to host more than 80 events in 2010 alone including networking events, forums and seminars attracting high profile and influential business leaders and speakers from both here in Dubai, around the UAE and from around the world.

Mr Beer concluded: “Since 1987 we have invested a considerable amount of time and energy understanding how to do business here.  As we look to the future we remain committed to Dubai and look forward to continuing to play a proactive role in its continued success.”

The BBG will host a commemorative event for its members to mark the Best of British award in the coming month.
