The Seventh Dubai City of Gold Conference ended on a high note with the industry looking forward to benefit from gold’s re-emergence as a safe haven and an attractive option by the global investor community. Despite the challenges of high prices and changing consumer preferences, industry experts expect a modest recovery in gold jewellery sales.
At the successful conclusion of the event, which was held in the iconic Almas Tower in the Jumeirah Lakes Towers, the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group announced that the next edition of the event will be held alongside the 16th Dubai International Jewellery Week (DIJW) on 23rd April 2011.]

Speaking at this year’s event at the Almas Tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Chandu Siroya, Vice Chairman of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, said: “This is a key partnership for all the industry players as it will bring the most influential decision-makers together to help set the direction of the industry in the coming years.”
He added: “We have seen today how integral Dubai is to the international gold trade and our strategic partnership with Dubai International Jewellery Week will provide a platform to assess the current state of the industry and explore the dynamic opportunities available.”

Commenting on this year’s conference, Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, said: “DMCC were pleased to host the 7th City of Gold Conference at Almas Tower, the tallest office tower in the Middle East and fast emerging as the location of choice for the gold and precious gems industries. We look forward to hosting many such regional and international conferences in our conference suites in this iconic centre built for the precious commodities trade. The conference brought together over 400 participants from the global jewellery industry for discussions on current and future market trends for the gold industry, which is amongst Dubai’s top five contributors to UAE’s non-oil economy.”

“In synergy with Dubai International Jewellery Week’s initiatives in promoting the industry, we are delighted to announce that the eighth edition of the Dubai City of Gold Conference will be held in conjunction with DIJW. This will give the local, regional and international jewellery experts and retailers a broader chance to enjoy both the events and benefit from wider networking opportunities,” commented Swapna Nair, General Manager of Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group.

Dubai International Jewellery Week reflects on Dubai’s status as ‘City of Gold’ which Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group has strived to establish over the years. The event provides the perfect platform for global and regional manufacturers to meet buyers from the Gulf, North Africa, India and beyond.
The city itself accounts for 14% of world jewellery sales and DIJW showcases the capabilities of the emirate’s vast retail jewellery sector.
