Canon Middle East has announced the winners of its regional ‘Celebrating My City’ photo competition and revealed the thirteen images that best capture the region’s diverse cityscapes.

With more than 2,000 entries to choose from an independent panel of judges selected Kuwaiti photographer, Sue Azmi’s ‘Walking into Colours’ image as overall winner with local photographer Wijnand Van Till scooping the UAE prize with his picture entitled titled ‘Dubai in the clouds’.

The Canon photography competition encouraged photographers of all abilities to submit an image inspired by their city from across the region for a chance to win a state of the art DSLR Canon camera – the EOS 500 D or a Canon PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II professional photo printer. Out of the total of 13 winners, the grand prize winner, Sue Azmi won an all expenses paid trip to Dubai and Beirut – two of the Middle East’s most eye catching cities, as well as Canon’s latest DLSR – EOS 550D.

Commenting on the grand prize winner’s image, David Bell, a member of the judging panel commented: “The grand prize winning entry conveyed in one image the central theme of the competition, it celebrates pride in one’s city. This shot and the majority of the other winners share a common gift, that of capturing the perfect moment in time.”
“Canon Middle East is committed to supporting photography in the region and making it accessible to all. The quality of imagery submitted was very high and demonstrated the entrants’ photographic skills, with many of the entries managing to capture the spirit of their city in a split second shot.  Canon’s competition has inspired the imagination and creativity of thousands of passionate photographers from across the region, and enabled them to capture and showcase the best of their city using the power of image,” said Hendrik Verbrugghe, B2C Marketing Manager, Canon Middle East.

The quality of entries from across the region made the judging process difficult for the independent on-line panel of experts which consisted of well known photo editors and photographers.
“While congratulating our winners, we would also like to recognise other talented photographers who submitted images to make this competition a real success. As the brand that revolutionised consumer DSLR photography, we are thrilled to see how much photographic talent the MENA region is producing,” concluded Verbrugghe.
