Are you ready to walk ‘The Walk’ next Friday, 3rd December? There are just four days to go until the 1km fun walk to raise awareness of osteoporosis so put the date in your diary! As well as helping to raise awareness of the ‘silent disease’, everyone who attends the event will receive a limited edition ‘Walk for Bones’ t-shirt, designed by Meher&Riddhima.
Meher Mirchandani and Riddhima Whabi, two local fashion designers and owners of the fashion brand Meher&Riddhima, are members of the Anlene Ambassador Board, which helps to raise awareness of osteoporosis among women in the region. The decided they could support the cause further with their creative designs.
“We are proud to support the event and use our talent to help raise awareness of this debilitating disease,†said Meher Mirchandani, CEO of Meher&Riddhima.
“T-shirts for events tend to be worn once then discarded, so we saw this as a great opportunity to give the walkers a more fashion-forward design, which they would want to wear again and again,†added Riddhima Whabi, Creative Director of Meher & Riddhima. “Plus with each wear it also has the double benefit of reminding them to look after their bone health!â€
Meher and Riddhima established their premium luxury label in 2002. Since then, the colour and creatively of the flattering styles and silhouettes has made their designs a must-have among Dubai-based A-listers and socialites, as well as international celebrities. Their elegant designs are available in selected outlets across Dubai including Boutique 1, whose flagship store is on The Walk at JBR, Dubai Marina, near to where ‘Walk for Bones’ will begin.
Meher and Riddhima will be attending ‘Walk for Bones’, and it is the first time ever, The Walk at JBR is hosting an event of this kind. The walk is being organised by Anlene, a milk powder brand specially formulated for adults to help build healthy bones and prevent osteoporosis.
As well as a number of other members of the Anlene Ambassador Board, Howayda Abu Heif, a popular presenter and content producer on MBC’s Green Apple show will also be attending.
“Regular exercise really helps prevent osteoporosis. I, like everyone, sometimes find it hard to get motivated to exercise; but simply walking and staying active will really help to prevent the onset of the disease,†said Howayda. “Walk for Bones is a great opportunity to start looking after your bone health, if you are not doing so already!â€
The official start of the walk is 10:30am near Boutique 1 and the route will offer walkers the pleasure of shade and a sea breeze. Walkers are invited to come along from 9am to register, and take advantage of free bone scanning, which will be available from 9am to midnight on the day of the event.
Before the official start of the walk, a fitness instructor will ensure everyone is limbered up and The Philippines School of Drums and Lyre will lead the way to give rhythm to the footsteps.
