Drivers will soon be able to renew their licence or vehicle registration in any emirate under a new decentralized traffic services system to be launched next week.
The decision is part of a landmark project to link the federal vehicle licensing and registration system in all UAE emirates by the end of 2010 to facilitate services to car owners and ease pressure on busy centres.
The system will be launched gradually from the next week and it will offer all services to car owners except those related to issuance of new licences and registrations. Car owners and holders of driving licences issued in any emirate will be able to get services at the Abu Dhabi licensing department without the need to be referred to the original source of their licenses.
The final phase of the project would be implemented gradually, as such services should be activated in coordination between the Ministry of Interior, the police departments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and Dubai’s Road and Communications Authority.
