The checkered flag was handed to the UAE’s Nadir Bin Hendi after a convincing win in the Pro Runabout GP class today (Saturday) in the UAE Jet Ski Championship at The Walk Jumeirah. Team Kuwait made a clean sweep at the top in the Runabout Stock class with Mohamed Ebrahim Bu Rabie’e taking the number 1 spot. Japans Toshi Ohara won in the stand up Ski Limited and Saif Mohammed Saif Al Ma’asam, from the UAE led the younger set in the Junior Ski with Steven Dauliach from France taking the honours in the Pro Ski GP.
With a sky full of parachutes from the Dubai International Sky Diving Championship and a sea full of Jet Skis competing in the UAE Jet Ski Championship the atmosphere on the beach at The Walk, Jumeirah was simply electric. ‘It doesn’t get much better than this, It’s amazing here today,’ said Huraiz Al Mur Huraiz, Chairman of the Dubai International Marine Club organizing committee. ‘There is so much going today and it makes me very proud of what we as a country are achieving and relatively speaking we are still only at the beginning.’
The day was interspersed with flying displays accompanying the action in the sky providing many treats for the many spectators and finished with the agility of the Jet Ski Free Style ski show with Khalid Salem Butti Al Qubaisi from the UAE in first place and Jun Ikoma from Japan coming second.
Seventy skiers from ten countries raced in five categories in five races lasting fifteen minutes each in two rounds with a sixth Free Style category added to the last round in the afternoon. The final round of the UAE Jet Ski Championship will be on April 30th.
