Zolaykha Sherzad will present the 2011 collection of Zarif Designs at a défilé and sale hosted by Xerxes Art and NMArt Gallery.

Zarif, under the direction of Zolaykha Sherzad, creates exclusive fashions for women and men, fusing Afghan designs with contemporary Western fashion. The line uses traditional Afghan craftsmanship, patterns, fabrics and embroidery and is produced by hand in Kabul.

HauteLook.com - Members exclusive premium online sample sale Zarif, which means “fine” or “delicate” in Persian and in Dari, was started in 2005 by Zolaykha Sherzad, a widely exhibited Afghan born and New York based artist. In addition to wanting to resurrect traditional Afghan craftsmanship long neglected by decades of occupation and civil war, Sherzad also wants Zarif to become an avenue for Afghan women’s economic development.

Afghan Contemporary artist Zolaykha Sherzad will have her works exhibited as part of Common Threads: Contemporary Art From Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Pakistan, a group show curated by Maliha Bhutto Rahimtoola, Nyla Qayoom Noorani and Xerxes Art. The exhibition showcases the similarities and differences of the art from a populace which shares the commonality of ethnicity, linguistic roots and religion and features works by Ali Adjalli, Anila Quayyum Agha, Jamal Ahmed, Imran Channa, Nizakat Ali Depar, Simeen Farhat, Zahid Farooqui, Abdul Jabbar Gul, Emaan Mahmud, Aqsa Shakil, Zolaykha Sherzad, Sheenkai Stanikzai, Amjad Ali Talpur, Rahim Walizada and Amer Youssof.
