To mark International Women’s Day 2011, Dubai Ladies Club, a member of Dubai Women Establishment, was joined by the American Women’s Association of Dubai and Keynote Speaker, Mariam Behnam for a special luncheon gathering aptly titled “A Day of Strength, Empowerment and Cultural Understanding”.
Over 100 members of Dubai Ladies Club and American Women’s Association of Dubai participated in the event that aimed to initiate an intercultural dialogue between Emirati and American ladies.
Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai ladies Club, recognized the importance of celebrating International Women’s Day as a way to reflect on the past and think towards the future. “International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, or political. Which is why we were delighted to welcome Marian Behnam as Keynote Speaker whose lifelong dedication to humanitarian issues and her tireless efforts to advocate for underprivileged women across the region is an inspiration to all.” The day’s celebrations also included a special presentation by Dubai Ladies Club about the Al Murjan Reef Rehabilitation Project. Under the Royal Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs,; Al Murjan Reef Rehabilitation Project is an initiative by the Dubai Ladies Club, Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai and Traders Hotel, Dubai under the umbrella of sustainability’ Shangri-La’s Social Responsibility initiative.
Moreover, Al Ghadeer was also present to sell their unique handcrafted gift sets. Al Ghadeer is a UAE Red Crescent micro-financing initiative that seeks to empower underprivileged women using the age-old practice of indigenous arts and crafts to create unique handcrafted gifts.
