Tens of thousands of fans joined AC Milan last night to officially celebrate their Serie A title – secured in Emirates’ first year as shirt sponsor.
The celebrations, before during and after AC Milan’s 4-1 win over Cagliari, saw the city of Milan turned into a sea of red and black. The team toured in an open top bus and at their San Siro stadium, fireworks went off in the colours of the Italian flag in front of 80,000 supporters.
The Italian league champions had already secured the title last Saturday after drawing nil-nil with Roma, but it was agreed the official party would take place last night.
“We congratulate the team, and as this was the first year of our shirt sponsorship, we would like to think that AC Milan benefitted from a touch of Emirates’ magic,” said Salem Obaidalla, Emirates’ Senior Vice
President, Commercial Operations, Europe & Russian Federation. “Enjoying such success in its field is something Emirates can closely identify with. In a week when AC Milan have been celebrating their first Serie A title in seven years, the Emirates Group announced record profits of USD 1.6 billion. We have a formidable partnership and long may it continue,” added Mr Obaidalla.
Emirates first signed a sponsorship agreement with AC Milan in September 2007. In 2008, the relationship with AC Milan was elevated to Top Institutional Sponsor and in February of last year, the airline announced the new 5-year shirt sponsorship deal. The carrier operates 35 flights a week to Italy, serving Milan, Venice and Rome. On 6th June, an Emirates’ A380 will be deployed for the day to mark the 50th anniversary of Rome Fiumicino ”Leonardo da Vinci” airport, as well as marking 150 years of Italian unification.
