The Election Management Committee constituted by the UAE National Election Committee held a series of meeting with volunteers interested in working at polling centres for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections this year in order to educate them about the electoral process and its associated requirements.

The meetings, held in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, covered all aspects of the electoral process, including ways to deal with voters, candidates and the public on the Election Day. The volunteers will be selected based on their level of interest and commitment as well as their capabilities provided they meet the general conditions proposed by the Election Management Committee.

His Excellency Sami Bin Adi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services at the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and member of the Election Management Committee explained to the volunteers the roles that will be assigned to them and the importance of those roles as the essential part of a national project that calls for concerted efforts.

“The National Election Committee had a successful experience working with volunteers during the 2006 elections as they formed an integral part of the proceedings on the Election Day. It is this success that inspired us to use such potential for the second time in the 2011 elections,” said His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs and member of the National Election Committee.

“The Election Management Committee has held a number of meetings with the volunteers in all emirates to provide an opportunity for the different groups of young people to participate in the electoral process and underline their role in this exciting and important project” he added.
