Parents in Dubai are not satisfied with the tuition fees and feel that the quality of education their children receive is not proportional to the fees they are paying.

Such issues are not always looked at seriously and addressed by KHDA, despite a system being developed to address complaints in regards to schools. Parents can address their concerns to the authority, but in some cases they will meet the refusal of the staff to handle complaints.

Umm Rashid, whose child attends Repton school in Dubai said that despite its great facilities the school offers very poor academic standards, that doesn’t justify the high tuition fees. “We paid nearly 60,000 dirhams for primary school this year. I find it ridiculous for us to spend so much on tuition, especially since the school doesn’t even provide text books and its academic program is behind other already established schools in Dubai,” she said.

The inflated fees are a consequence of the current demand for school placements, which exceeds the available supply. But soon the supply is expected to equal the demand with many new schools being built.

However, the issues with the quality of education is very much likely to persist, as all of the new schools need time to get organized, develop proper academic strategies and employ teams of professional educators.
