Car dealers in the UAE have approved the unified form for purchase contracts proposed by the Ministry of Economy to facilitate procedures and protect consumer rights. The agreement was conveyed to Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy, when he met with senior representatives from automobile dealership firms in the UAE today.

Dr. Al Nuaimi thanked the car dealers for their positive response to the proposal, stressing that the unified contract will energise the automobile sector in the UAE and make buying and selling activity more transparent, to the benefit of customers.

The unified contract form will be obligatory effective the 1st of October 2011. Car dealers violating the new rule will be fined according to Federal Law No. 24 for the year 2006 for Consumer Protection.

Car dealers emphasised their commitment to the new contract form at the meeting and thanked the Ministry of Economy for initiating the move, which they said will enhance their business and increase customer confidence.

Dr Al Nuaimi said the Ministry had sent the proposal and the new contract form to two committees formed among car dealership firms in Dubai and Abu Dhabi earlier. The proposal won full approval from both committees.

After the meeting Dr Al Nuaimi and the car dealers accompanied the media on a field trip to Al Futtaim Motors showroom in Dubai to demonstrate the ease and efficiency of the new procedure. He said that the ministry will organise similar field visits to all car dealership firms in the UAE to oversee the implementation of the unified contract.
