According to a report in Arabic daily ‘Al Khaleej’, a delay in applying for or renewing ID cards and a delay in registration in the Population Register will incur fines shortly. The fine will be Dh20 for each delayed day and up to Dh1,000 for residents delaying registration or renewal of ID cards, which is 30 days after the expiry. Fines will also imposed on those who fail to report changes in the individual data or civil events within 30 days from the date of change.
Emirates Identity Authority’s Director-General Dr Ali Mohammed Al Khouri commented that the rule, issued in August, will be applicable 60 days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Only people with disabilities and those under the Social Security Act will be exempted from registration fee, provided they submit authorized certificate as proof.
