Islamic New Year Public Holiday on 1st December

The public holiday usually given on the occasion of the Islamic New Year – Al Hijra has been moved to Thursday, December 1st, to coincide with the celebrations of UAE’s 40th National Day.


Al-Hijra in 2011 falls on Sunday, the 27th of November and the Muharram will continue for 29 days until Saturday, the 23rd of December.

In the Muslim calendar, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Muslims will celebrate the New Hijri Year on the sunset of Saturday, the 26th of November.

According to Dubai Media Office, the public holiday on the occasion of the Islamic New Year has been moved to Thursday, December 1st, to coincide with the celebrations of UAE’s 40th National Day.
