Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Economic Sector Committee in Dubai, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, the Department of Economic Development (DED) will organise the “Share Best Practice 2011” conference on Wednesday, 14 December, 2011. The event is aimed at promoting a culture of quality and excellence among the business community in Dubai.
The annual full-day conference, to be held at the Al Ras Ballroom in InterContinental Festival City, will provide the winners of the 2010 Business Excellence Awards with a platform to share best practices in quality management with different organisations.
The conference will also see DED launching a new book titled “Dubai Quality Award Winning Practices”, which shares benchmarking indices and practices of Dubai Quality Award (DQA) winners set against international quality award winners. The assessment was undertaken by Quality Indeed Consulting FZE (QICS) in partnership with the American Productivity Quality Centre (APQC), the worlds’ leading source for best practices and performance benchmarks that has over 30 years of experience with the world’s largest databases and more than 8,500 benchmarking and best-practice studies.
Mr Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development in DED, said: “DED continually launches new initiatives, building on our commitment to quality and excellence. The latest study we are about to release is the first of its kind in the region, and will further help us to address any gaps in our journey towards excellence and ensure that we remain well-aligned with global quality standards.”
“We will remain committed to our basic ideals of creating a robust economic environment that promotes innovation, boosts creativity and inspires businesses to further grow and prosper. The Dubai Business Excellence Awards including the recently launched ‘Investors in People UAE’ award will play a key role in this journey,” added Mr Ali.
The study covered 20 previous DQA Gold, DQA and the Dubai Quality Appreciation Programme (DQAP) winners in various industry sectors such as services, finance, tourism, trade, education, manufacturing, and construction. The book can be used by all DQA applicants, past and present, as well as organisations from government and private sectors, to benchmark their performance as per the EFQM criteria as well as learn and implement best practices within their organisation.
“The Share Best Practice 2011 conference is a vital step in the journey to excellence as it serves as a platform for progressive exchange of ideas, knowledge and expertise between role-model organisations and potential aspirants of the awards. The winners of the Dubai Business Excellence Awards have shown that excellence is indeed a part of their DNA and their success has inspired more businesses to step forward, enriching the overall excellence that one associates with Dubai today,” said Mohammed Juma Bushnain Al Amri, Executive Director of Corporate Quality and Management Excellence at DED.
Graham Elder, Learning and Organisation Development Consultant at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and Dr Milton Krivokuca, Instructor of quality classes at California State University Dominguez Hills, will address the conference.
The Business Excellence Department at DED will also distribute a book at the conference outlining the best practices submitted by the winners of the Business Excellence Awards in 2010. The book will include details of the winning entries, enabling potential applicants to get an insight into the benefits of applying for the awards.
The exhibition, held alongside the conference will have booths for DED and its agencies. Admission to the conference is by invitation from the winners of the Business Excellence Awards. Those interested in participating can contact the Business Excellence Department on 04-4455871 or by email to bec@dubaided.gov.ae.
