Latest update on prices of building materials in Abu Dhabi

Prices for a number of building materials showed changes during December 2011, compared with November 2011, according to the latest monthly statistical report issued by Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

It added that prices for transport equipment increased by 11.3 per cent as all items in this group registered price increases of between 1.3 per cent and 43.5 per cent. The glass group rose by 6.4 per cent. In addition, prices of concrete rose by 6.0 per cent and wood rose by 2. 2 per cent.

Prices of Wires for Apartments decreased by 3. 6 per cent, Sink Stainless Steel With Mixer-Single by 2.4 per cent and Steel” by 1. 6 per cent.

During December 2011 compared with December 2010, the strongest increase at 39.8 per cent was in prices for transport equipment. Prices of Aggregates and Sand rose by 18.1 per cent as all items in this group registered price increases of between 3.6 per cent and 41.7 per cent. In addition, prices of Tiles and Marble rose by 12.1 per cent and Waterproofing Products rose by 10.7 per cent.

Some other commodity groups showed a decline in average prices during December 2011, compared with December 2010. Prices of power cable fell by 10.4 per cent, (PVC) Pipes by 8.0 per cent, concrete” by 6.6 per cent and Block by 6.4 per cent.

Most of the commodity groups of building materials recorded higher average prices during Q4 2011 compared with Q3 2011. Increases ranged between 0.8 per cent for false ceiling and 15.9 per cent for the glass group.

The average prices for diesel and roofing materials stabilised during the Q4 2011, compared with Q3 2011.

A number of commodity group prices declined between Q4 2011 and Q3 2011. The average prices of Sink Stainless Steel with Mixer-Single decreased by 41.9 per cent, Power cable by 9.3 per cent, concrete by 7.7 per cent, Wires for Apartments by 7.1 per cent and Aggregates and Sand by 6.3 per cent.

The average prices of fifteen commodity groups increased during Q4 2011 compared with Q4 2010. Increases ranged between 0.8 per cent for “Cement” and 30.7 per cent for “Transport equipment”.

Among these commodities “Aggregates ‘&’ Sand” increased by 19.9 per cent, “Tiles and Marble” by 13.5 per cent, “Wires for Residential Towers” by 13.4 per cent and “Waterproofing Products” by 11.8 per cent.

The average price for diesel stabilised during Q4 2011, compared with Q4 2010. Some other commodity groups showed a decline in average prices during Q4 2011, compared with Q4 2010. Prices of (PVC) Pipes fell by 8.0 per cent, Block by 6.4 per cent, and Natural Stone by 5.9 per cent.
