Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) issued today its monthly report on the prices of building materials for the month of March and the first quarter of 2012. The report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in Abu Dhabi market during March and the first quarter of 2012.
SCAD reported rises in the average prices of twelve out of 21 building materials groups during Q1 2012 compared with Q1 2012. The increases ranged between 0.8 per cent for Sanitary Ware- Sink Stainless Steel with Mixer-Single and 21.2 per cent for Aggregates and Sand. Transport Equipment increased by 18.4 per cent, Paints by 11.0 per cent, Sanitary Ware- Bathroom Set without Accessories by 6.8 per cent and Construction labour by 4.9 per cent.
The average price for Diesel and Sanitary Ware- Bathroom Set with Accessories remained stable during Q1 2012, compared with Q1 2011.
On the other hand the average prices of some other commodity groups declined in Q1 2012, compared with Q1 2011: the prices of Wires for Apartments fell by 15.0 per cent, (PVC) Pipes by 14.4 per cent and Wires for Small Buildings by 11.1 per cent.
The reports also analyzes the average prices of building materials during Q1 2012 compared with Q4 2011, revealing higher average prices in Q1 2012, with increases ranging between 0.6 per cent for (UPVC) Pipes and 6.5 per cent for the Sanitary Ware- Sink Stainless Steel with Mixer-Single group.
The average prices for Diesel, Roofing Materials, Natural Stone, Wires for Residential Towers, Sanitary Ware- Bathroom Set, without Accessories and Sanitary Ware- Bathroom Set with Accessories stabilized during Q1 2012, compared with Q4 2011.
However, the prices of a number of commodity group declined between Q4 2011 and Q1 2012. These include the average prices of Construction labour, which decreased by 9.0 per cent, Steel by 8.2 per cent, (PVC) Pipes by 6.9 per cent, Wires for Small Buildings by 6.2 per cent and Wires for Apartments by 5.3 per cent.
Prices of building materials in March 2012 compared with February 2012 As SCAD’s report reveals, price changes during March 2012 compared with March 2011 were dominated by increases in most commodity groups, with the largest rise recorded in the prices of Aggregates and sand, which shot up 21.1 per cent as all items under this group registered price increases between 3.6 per cent and 38.9 per cent. The Transport Equipment showed the next largest rise during this comparison period, climbing 10.6 per cent. In addition, the prices of Paints grew by 6.7 per cent and Wires for Residential Towers by 5.3 per cent in March 2012 compared with March 2011.
A range of other commodity groups showed a decline in average prices during March 2012, compared with March 2011. These include the prices of Wires for Apartments, which fell by 19.9 per cent, (PVC) Pipes by 14.1 per cent, Wires for Small Buildings” by 13.0 per cent and Power cables by 7.8 per cent.
SCAD’s monthly report of building materials prices report surveys the prices of 21 groups of commodities and services that represent the most important materials used in the construction activity, including cement, aggregate, sand, wood, steel, concrete, cement blocks.
