The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, has shortlisted 12 UAE-based artists for the second ‘Outdoor Art Project.’

This year’s ‘Outdoor Art Project’ was launched by Dubai Culture, in partnership with Dubai Properties Group (DPG), to place emphasis on outdoor art and highlight the urban artist’s expression of creativity. Over 40 proposals were received in response to the open call, which aims to commission and showcase the selected artworks at Bay Avenue, the retail promenade located at The Executive Towers in Business Bay, one of DPG’s key developments.

An eminent selection committee evaluated the proposals for their creative expression and the reflection of the theme, ‘This is Dubai, the city that I lived.’ The selected artists include: FN Designs; Mohammed Al Marzouqi; Hadier Shihabi; Areej Al Hammadi; Michal Teague; Darwin Guevarra; Sandra Surtie; Lucas Surtie; Elise Vazelakis; Farah Nasri; Amal Al Beiti; and Flordeliza Pesigan.

The artists will explore a wide range of mediums including painting, digital print, installation, stencil art and mixed media, among others, on 9m x 3m displays. The final works will be unveiled to the public on May 10, 2012.

Khalil Abdulwahid, Manager of Visual Arts, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “The Outdoor Art Project is a new step in strengthening urban art in Dubai, and we are delighted by the strong interest from the creative community. The quality of submissions was high, and it was a tough process to select the final 12, who showed tremendous artistic potential. We look forward to the greater participation of our artists in the second phase of the project, which we plan to roll out shortly.”

Dubai Culture is committed to driving the Emirate’s development as an influential driver of culture and the arts in the region, by building a strong creative environment, nurturing and developing talents here and on the international arts scene, as well as strengthening artistic community engagement.
