Old faces, new places, lots of guns and some puns

A couple of years ago, Sylvester Stallone and other well-known tough guys joined together for the shooting of the old-fashioned flick The Expendables. The sequel of the movie just hit the theaters worldwide. And believe it or not, but this time it is bigger then ever. Why? Because they are more tough guys, there are more visual effects and intense fights.

Barney Ross (Stallone) is the leader of a group of moral-abiding and, at the same time, gun-loving guys called the Expendables. If you have watched the first movie you will most certainly recognize action actors Jason Statham (Lee Christmas), Dolph Lundgren (Gunner Jensen), Terry Crews (Hale Caesar) and Randy Couture (Toll Road). Among the new members of the cold-blooded gang is young actor Liam Hemsworth known from the blockbuster Hunger Games. It is somewhat refreshing to see a young face in the crowd!

As a typical action movie the plot is easy to follow. The gang is given a mission to get a package from a dangerous place. For the purpose of the assignment, a sexy lady joins the team – Maggie (Yu Nan). Here it should be mentioned that she shows some fighting skills of her own giving men something to think about. However, a villain named… Vilain (Jean Claude Van Damme) enters the scene and spoils their plans. Not long after that, the Expendables go on another mission – to get their vengeance.

This time the sequel is directed by Simon West (Son Air) and it relies more on humour. The puns in the flick do not shine with uniqueness, but the BANGS! and the BOOMS! in it will make stand in your chairs.

Just like its predecessor, Expendables 2 uses big Hollywood names to attract the viewers in the theaters. Most of them play brief cameo roles, but don’t worry – they are all part of the game. It is certainly a thrill for action fans to see Arnold Schwartzenegger and Van Damme shoot big guns and kick some bad guys. But the cameo that stands out the most has got to be the role of wonder man Chuck Norris.

As a whole, Expendables 2 is not an Oscar-winning movie. But it has all the ingredients of a great summer action film – guns, fights, sweat, tears, muscles and women. In addition, the Hollywood formula impressive budget ($100M) + famous cast is always equal to loud and massive scenes! So, if you are an action fan, head straight to the theaters! You won’t regret it!
