Aspiring and established Emirati artists have 17 days left to apply for the annual Artists-in-Residence programme, organised by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, in partnership with the Delfina Foundation, Art Dubai, and Tashkeel.
Three Emirati visual artists will be given the opportunity to work alongside three international artists and a curator-in-residence, in the historic Al Bastakiya, the cultural nerve-centre of Dubai.
Aimed at nurturing homegrown talent, the Artists-in-Residence programme provides aspiring Emirati artists with the opportunity to derive inspiration through intercultural artistic exchange, while providing artists with a substantial platform to showcase their work.
The third Artists-in-Residence programme will run from January to March 2013, coinciding with Art Week, Dubai’s premier umbrella arts initiative comprising Art Dubai and SIKKA Art Fair, Dubai Culture’s dedicated contemporary fair.
Shortlisted artists will be commissioned to create site-specific works for SIKKA 2013, while the international artists will create works for Art Dubai Projects, the critically-acclaimed, non-commercial programme which forms part of the fair’s programming.
Interested Emirati artists can explore a range of art disciplines including visual arts and film, paintings and mixed-media installations. The deadline for submissions for the artists and curators is September 16, 2012. Entries will be evaluated by the selection panel, and the selected artists and curators will be announced in October 2012.
