Khalifa Port to offer innovations in good’s transportation
Khalifa Port opened recently in Taweelah, which is nearly 400 km away from another port – Jebel Ali. It is believed that this new port will bring innovations in terms of goods’ transportation. Also, the port will transform the economy of Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a whole.
At first, the port’s capacity will be 2.5 million TEUs (containers weighing about 5 million tons) and another 15 million tons of additional cargo a year. It is believed that soon the port would be able to handle a total of 15 million containers annually.
Khalifa Port is a project of 2030 Vision initiative which aims at turning Abu Dhabi into a main player on the economical map of the area. The port is also part of Kizad (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi) which is known as a developing industrial zone. A highway will directly connect the port to the cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
A large power plant was built in Taweelah. Together with a big smelter it will provide electricity for the port 24/7. There are many investors who hope to gain some profit from the facilities.
Industrial cargos will be transported faster, because the port will also use the Union Railway of the UAE. Many industrial areas are being created in order to bring diversity into Abu Dhabi’s rising economy. The government also works on a number of petrochemical projects in Ruwais. They will create downstream petrochemical industries, a production cluster in ICAD (Industrial City of Abu Dhabi) in Mussaffah. Aslo, a number of aerospace projects will be developed in Al Ain. They will produce parts for aircrafts like Boeing and Airbus. In addition, they would also work on their own airplane models.
The timing of Khalifa Port’s opening is perfect, since all projects are developed at the same time. The Abu Dhabi put more that Dh26 billion in the creation of the port. However, it is expected to change the economy of Abu Dhabi for the better.
