Google launched a new layout for its search page. The revamped look offers more space to users by moving the navigational tools from the left sidebar to the top of the screen.
The company officially announced the news this Tuesday on its Inside Search blog. Google stated that the aim of the new design is to improve the search experience for more electronic devices with smaller screens. The new look of the search page is developed to suit the needs of all users, including those who have tablets and smartphones.
Google said that decision was a natural continuation of the company’s new strategy for software and hardware production. The new layout is cleaner and it gives more space.
The most apparent transformation in Google’ search page is the missing left sidebar. To use popular functions like Web, Maps, Images, Gmail, Documents, and etc., users now need to click on the top of the screen.
Despite looking more minimalistic, Google claims that the layout still offers a top quality service in terms of search results. It explained that the search engine still offers its popular advanced options. However, now to view them you would need to click the ‘Search tools’ button. From there you can do all the necessary filtering you need.
In the new bar you can also find the features “Visited pages”, “Not yet visited”, “Related searches” and “Sites with images”.
Google first tried out the new design about four months ago. However, then the new search page was only available for a limited number of people.
The fresh layout will be first released in the United States and later – in other regions around the world. In addition, from November 16, Google will drop the customizing option which allows users to put a background image on their search page.
It is still unknown how people will react to the new look of the search engine. We remind you that some of Google’s old designs, which included horizontal tool bars, had to be changed since the majority of users did not approve of them.
