The first Dubai International Music Awards will take place at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai in 2013, details will be announced at a press conference at the iconic Burj Khalifa.
The event is called “Dima” and will be streamed live on YouTube in January 2013.
The international panel of judges includes American Hype Williams, who previously collaborated with Jay-Z and Rihanna, soFLY&Nius a producer for Flo Rida, the Korean pop tycoon Rhee Woo Seok, Nomar Ayala – Daddy Yankee’s manager from Puerto Rico, singer Mokobe Traore from Mali along with Myriam Fares’ manager, Roula, from Lebanon and UAE based DJ Bliss.
Dima aims to recognize well-known musicians and industry professionals internationally and in the Middle East, judges will be looking at music released at the beginning of January to the end of September 2012.
According to Gulf News the executive producer of Dima, Asri Bendacha said “This will be the first music awards ceremony broadcast online with worldwide access” Adding “One of our goals is to make Dubai the world capital of music”.
Dima organizers want the event to bring together well-known artists from around the world with an “extravagant fireworks display,” in true Dubai fashion for the grand finale.
The awards ceremony will pay homage to 67 talented artists from more than 20 countries.
The nominees for each category, which are yet to be released, will be revealed in October 2013 and decided upon by an online voting system.
The award show follows just after this in November of the same year.
