There is an interesting trend in among this year’s top-selling DVD movies. In 2012, animations dominated the market and they stole the hearts of the viewers. About half of the titles in the top 10 of DVD titles in 2012 are animated films.
In addition, Disney, Universal Home Entertainment and Paramount were the studios that created the most popular flicks this year. But let’s take a better look at the 2012 best 10 DVD titles!
The Avengers – Comic book fans anticipated the release of this film for some time. And why wouldn’t they? The Avengers included many famous comic book characters. Also, the cast was full with great names like Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson.
The Hunger Games – The DVD of this film managed to sell the amazing 3.8 million copies only in its first week. This year The Hunger Games quickly transformed from a book to a movie and then to an entire franchise industry.
Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 – Even though the DVD for the first part of the fourth installment of the Twilight Saga was released at the very beginning of 2012, Breaking Dawn maintained a strong position on the DVD market throughout the whole year. Currently the movie has sold nearly 95 million units.
Brave – This is the first animation in the chart, but prepare for many more. The DVD of the movie hit the stores only a month ago, but it already takes the 4th position on our list.
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax – The computer-animated film is a screen adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ famous children’s book. The movie was ready just in time for Seuss’ 108th birthday. Among the cast were viewers’ favourites like Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Danny DeVito, Betty White and Ed Helms.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – Despite the fact the sequel of Sherlock Holmes received mixed reactions from the critics, it was more than welcomed by the public. The production made an international gross of more than $543 million.
Puss in Boots – We can call this film a spinoff of Shrek. Although it could reach the success of the green creature, Puss in Boots received various awards nominations, including one for an Oscar.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – This is the second sequel of the 2007 movie Alvin and the Chipmunks. The film got very negative reviews, but it managed to sell well.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted – Dreamwork’s latest 3D animation managed to make everybody laugh for the third time. Both critics and the public loved it and it won nearly $750 million dollars in the theatres!
Hop – This animated flick used the voices of stars like David Hasselhoff, Gary Cole, Chelsea Handler, Russell Brand, as well as Hugh Laurie. The DVD of the movie sold millions of copies worldwide in a very short amount of time.
