The Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris is where famous and talented designers introduce their Spring/Summer Haute Couture collections. The fashion event takes place two times a year. The first stage of it starts today, on January 21, and it will continue until January 24 (Thursday).
What is interesting about Paris’ Couture Fashion Week is that it includes only private shows which are open to a limited number of people.
Opening Show
This year, the event was opened by Donatella Versace. The designer showed off her Spring/Summer collection for 2013. However, the outfits in it had little to do with these two warm seasons. There was a general cold feeling about the designs and their colours. The colours were quite icy and sharp and the heavy makeup created a truly dramatic look. Donatella shared that the edgy collection was inspired by Le Centorial – a building made of steel, glass and iron located in the center of the French capital.
Upcoming Highlights
Monday – Dior will also introduce a collection today by designer Raf Simons. Right after that is the show of Mabille and Valli. The outfits in the collection promise to be very sophisticated, feminine and detailed.
Tuesday – The most anticipated show on Tuesday is Karl Lagerfeld’s. Apart from the interesting fashion designs, the spotlight will also be on the many celebrities which are expected to attend Lagerfeld’s Spring/Summer 2013 show. Then the runway will take Stepahne Rolland’s designs which are traditionally quite unusual and bold. Another highlight from January 22 will be Armani’s show which will also close the day.
Wednesday – Femininity will dominate the catwalk on Wednesday. Valentino will introduce a collection full of lace, delicate and vintage designs. Before that Gaultier will show off playful and dynamic outfits. Elie Saab is expected to add some glam to the day with her sophisticated and elegant dresses.
Thursday – On the last day of Paris’ Couture Fashion Week, Lecroux will introduce his fashion collection for this year’s Spring/Summer season. After his show is that of Rad Hourani and it is also expected to attract a lot of attention.
The 2013 Couture Fashion Week in France will not include Givenchy. The fashion house is one of the most avid participants at the event. However, Givenchy announced that this year they won’t be making couture fashion.
Despite that there will be some new faces like designers Maison Martin Margiela and Alexis Mabille who will take the Paris couture runways for the first time.
