As the countdown to Samsung’s Galaxy S4 official launch continues, more details emerge on the hotly anticipated device. Moreover, it looks like some of the specifications and features of the smartphone, that were rumoured a few days ago, are now confirmed. Among them is also the so-called Eye Scroll function.
All that can be concluded from the new pictures of the device that were published by GSM Israel, a tech blog. GSM Israel specifies that the images show the US version of Samsung’s smartphone. The screenshots taken by the blog reveal a good amount of information on some of the device’s key features. However, it does not show the design of the S4, but only its menu and interface.
The first thing that can be seen on the photos is that the next Galaxy S will have a 4.9” Full HD screen and it will support a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. As it was earlier reported, Galaxy S4 will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. However, it is not quite clear what the processor of the device will be. The images only reveal that it will be a quad-core one. That could mean that S4 will either be powered by Exynos Octa CPU or Qualcomm Snapdragon 600.
In terms of memory, the fourth-generation Galaxy S will have 1GB more RAM than its predecessor. But it will stick to the well-known formula of model diversity. Galaxy S4 will be released in three versions – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
The cameras of the phone also promise to impress. As rumours suggested, Samsung’s upcoming smartphone will have 2MP in the front and 13 in the back.
The only things that look almost certain about the device’s looks, judging from the pictures, are its size, weight and colour versions. GSM Israel’s snapshots reveal that Samsung’s new Galaxy phone will weigh a little less than 140 grams and its size will measure 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7 mm. If the images are showing the real thing, the US model of S4 will be offered in only two colours – black and white.
However, the biggest news is that Samsung Galaxy S4 will come with a Smart Scroll feature. One of the photos shows that the smartphone will have an entire section called Smart Screen dedicated to the new function. The section consists of four sub-sections – Smart Stay, Smart Rotation, Smart Pause and Smart Scroll. The good news is that under each of these options in the menu there is a short explanation of their basic purpose. The Smart Stay feature will turn off the display timeout when S4 detects that you are actually watching the display. Smart Rotation, on the other hand, will set the display’s orientation to fit your sight angle. The other great new S4 feature is Smart Pause which will be able to tell when you are not looking and the device. In that way it will pause videos that are being played. Last but not least is the Smart Scroll feature. The description under this sub-section confirms the function of Smart Scroll which was reported a few days ago. It will track user’s eye movement and scroll automatically.
All of these four features sound really interesting and even futuristic. If they end up being incorporated in the Samsung Galaxy S4, users will definitely get a new tech experience that may change the industry and give the South Korean company a head start before its competitors. Maybe the Smart Scroll feature will mark the beginning of the end of the dirty and greasy touch screens!
