This weekend in Dubai, residents and guests can enjoy a three-day entertainment and of the the most graceful of sports, figure skating. The third edition of the Golden Cup of Dubai Figure Skating Championships starts today, April 25 and will feature 220 athletes from 20 countries.
Regulated by the International Skating Union, the Championship will be evaluated by Master Coaches and Judges from Europe and North America. Participants will compete in Girls, Boys and Artistic disciplines during the three different parts – Singles, Interpretive, and Group Dance. Throughout the event, guests will have the chance to see the guests of honor, the two-time Olympic silver medalist Irina Slutskaya and the American skater and choreographer Ararat Zakarian. As with the previous editions, the Championship is hosted by Queen of the Ice World, the figure skating academy of Kristina Romanova and Lydia Paly-Hume, both famous names in international figure skating. Of course, the event is also supported by Dubai Sports Council and the newly launched UAE Figure Skating Federation.
The competition will be held over three days, from April 25 to April 27 and will be composed of three parts for Singles, Interpretive, and Group Dance where skaters will perform in Short and Free Programs. Skaters will compete in seven age categories from Beginners (5-6 years old or level skills) to Adults (19-20 years old).
The event supports the Dubai Sport Tourism strategy for promoting healthy lifestyle and sports activities to both Dubai residents and tourists. The championship also aims at popularizing and cultivating amateur figure skating for children and teenagers, as well as at drawing public attention to the amateur level of this sport. Of course, organizers are trying to inform people about training programs and how to become a professional figure skater at an early age. Guests will mostly enjoy the Interpretive, or artistic performances which will include not only serous, skillful skating, but also light-hearted entertainment for both skaters and observers. What can you expect? A lot of jumps, spins, acrobatic tricks, various music choices and beautiful costumes.
The 2013 Golden Cup of Dubai Figure Skating Championship is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Dubai Mall Ice Rink in Dubai. You can attend the Championship without worrying about ticket price because organizers have granted free entrance.
