Released just recently, the Times Higher Education World Reputation Ranking outlined the most powerful universities which have the highest reputation in the world. The list consists of 100 higher education institutes. They were selected through a survey in which participated more than 16,600 people from over 140 countries.

Here are the top universities by reputation in 2013:
Harvard University, United States – This is the oldest institute for higher education in the United States. Harvard is also known for the fact that 40 of the all Nobel laureates are its graduates. The university scored the maximum points in all categories, including research, teaching and overall reputation.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States – MIT has a total score of 87.6. However, this is enough to keep it on its last year’s position. Currently, in the university study more than 10,000 bright minds. Also, MIT has produced 70 Nobel Prize winners.
University of Cambridge, United Kingdom – This is the highest rated institute outside not only in Europe, but also outside the States. It shines with a ranking of 81.3 points and an outstanding reputation in teaching. Only the staff in Cambridge University is equal to 8,500 people. The present number of its students is over 18,000.
University of Oxford, United Kingdom – Compared to 2012, the University of Oxford managed to jump with two positions in the ranking thanks to its 71 points. The institute in Oxford is the third oldest one which still continues to operate today. More than 30 world leaders and over 25 British prime ministers have graduated there.
University of California, Berkeley, United States – The university’s reputation in research is pretty impressive (75.1 points). That is because Berkley stands behind some key findings like the lost Scarlatti opera and the identification of Vitamin E. Interesting fact about this institute is that it has over 10,000 postgraduates.
Stanford University, United States – The university in Stanford drops with two places on this years’
ranking. Despite that it continues to be the third richest higher education institute. Also, among its graduates are the founders of companies like Google and Hewlett-Packard.
Princeton University, United States – In 2013, Princeton has an overall score of 36.2 which is not much different from its last year performance on the chart. Although it is not one of the largest universities in the States, it had over 30 Nobel Prize laureates.
University of California, Los Angeles, United States – This university goes one spot up, landing on the 8th position. The institute is in close proximity to the heart of the film industry Hollywood. That makes it an attractive university for future film makers and artists.
University of Tokyo, Japan – The University of Tokyo has an overall score of 32.9 points which makes it the highest rated institute in Asia. It specializes in the research of various phenomena like earthquakes and cosmic rays and it currently has about 29,000 students.
Yale University, United States – This institute for higher education has 24 different libraries in which store about 12.5 million book titles. Also, among Yale’s graduates are five US presidents.
On a more general level, US universities performed the highest on this year’s reputation
ranking. Out of the 100 higher education institutes included in the list, 45 were based in the States. The UK also did quite impressive with nearly 10 universities on the chart. A little less representatives have countries like Australia, Japan, China, Switzerland and Canada.
