2013 CFDA Fashion Awards Recognise Outstanding Designers

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) honored the best of the best in fashion world last night at the 2013 CFDA Fashion Awards. The elite in the world of fashion and style gathered at Alice Tully Hall in New York to applaud Dominican designer, Oscar de la Renta and show appreciation and love to ex-Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton.

Host of the glamorous and star-studded event was TV personality and Bravo executive Andy Cohen who is known for his love for fashion. Clinton received a standing ovation before she announced the CFDA highest honor, the Founder’s Award to Oscar de la Renta, whom she gave a moving tribute noting his unique contribution to fashion. The 2013 Womenswear Designer of the Year Award went to Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler and Menswear Designer of the Year was presented by Dan Stevens to Thom Browne. Vera Wang received the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Awardfor her consistent, creative influence on fashion from her former boss Ralph Lauren. And Phillip Lim took home the Accessories Designer of the Year Award, presented by Rose Byrne.

The evening was underwritten by Swarovski for the twelfth year in a row and attended by Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board at Swarovski. The three Swarovski Awards were presented by the stars of the upcoming film Romeo & Juliet, Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth. These awards were designed to recognize and celebrate emerging talent. The Swarovski Award for Womenswear was given to Erin Beatty & Max Osterweis for Suno. The Swarovski Award for Menswear was presented to Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osborne for Public School and the Swarovski Award for Accessories Design went to Pamela Love. Traditionally, recipients will receive generous financial support from the company, as well as opportunity to use crystal products and applications in their collections.

The Board of Directors’ Tribute was given to Colleen Atwood by Ethan Hawke. Atwood is the first costume designer to be recognized by the CFDA. The Media Award for excellence in journalism, originally created in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard, was presented to Tim Blanks by Linda Evangelista. Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy was recognized with this year’s International Award, presented by Jessica Chastain. Of course, there was a various star mix of Hollywood and Seventh Avenue and more than 50 VIP guests, including designers, members of the CFDA, models, actors and actresses, as well as music, art and sports representatives.
