As the temperatures rise and the heat is getting almost unbearable in Dubai, stores, restaurants and cinemas are starting to extend their working hours. The summer is considered a low season for most businesses, so this move will help increase the sales while giving customers more time to shop and have fun.
Shopping malls in Dubai tend to extend their opening hours in June and July, backed up by the Dubai Department of Economic Development. The longer hours are believed to add a boost to the retail industry during the low season in the summer. While most shopping malls usually open at 10 in the morning and close at 10 p.m., now they will work until midnight. Some retailers and restaurants in the Dubai Mall will stay open even until 3.00 a.m. in attempt to increase the sales.
As there’s always two sides of the coin, some people will be content with new working hours, and others will question them. While tourists and guests will be glad they can enjoy shopping for longer, it’s not the perfect decision for employers who will have to pay for the extra hours, especially if they don’t make bigger profit. On the other hand, there will be certain employees who would not be happy about the longer working hours – sometimes you have to work for 12 hours (and more!) without even taking a break. And you may be even not compensated for those extra hours.
There is one more question related to the longer opening hours, as European visitors are not used to shop after 7.00 p.m, will they go to watch a movie at 11.00 p.m? Most of them won’t. So the extending of the working hours will work at the biggest shopping malls , because only they will be able to afford this strategy.
