New Indie Games Store to support independent game developers

Amazon introduced an online store dedicated entirely to games created by independent developers. The news was announced on Amazon’s blog by technical evangelist Peter Heinrich. In that way the company will offer a hand to indie developers and give them a chance to be recognized.

“It’s hard to get noticed, though. If you’re an indie game developer, it’s usually a headache to get your game in front of people, both gamers and reviewers. Amazon recognizes this,” wrote Heinrich in the post. In addition, the main purpose of the store will be to “increase discoverability” of these games.

The new platform is called Indie Game Store and it will offer games for PC, Mac, as well as the Web. Also, most of the products on the store will be Stream downloads. That means that gamers will not need for long to play the games.

Amazon’s Indie Game Store kicks off with more than 200 games in its library with the idea to expand x-potentially in the near future. The titles are from 100 different independent developers.

The platform will feature an Indie Spotlight. There, consumers and tech companies will have the chance to learn more about the developers. That will happen through Q&A, as well as biographies. Each week, a new developer will placed under the spotlight.

Also, Amazon will try to make the connection between developers and gamers with its Indie Gamer’s Choice section. There, two titles from the Indie Game Store will be placed head-to-head. Gamers will then give their vote for the better one.

Amazon will celebrate the launch of its latest platform with some special promotions and deals. Starting today until July 23, consumers can take advantage of Indie Bundles. They will include up to 10 games and will sell for only $10. In addition, 100% of the profits will go directly to the developers.

The other limited time promo is called Gift with Purchase. With it, gamers will receive free download codes for three pre-selected game titles. What is great is that Amazon will change these games every day. In other words, gamers can add three titles to their collection free of change on daily basis. This promotion also starts today and it will be valid until July 17th.
